On May 3, 2021, Blake, the owner of the company, came out to give us an estimate for a 6ft fence. During the quote process, Blake had said that they handle everything including permits with the only exception of HOA approval. On June 1, 2021 this business installed a 6ft fence around our yard which totaled $3600. Two days after the construction of the fence we received a letter from the city saying that we were in violation with the city's regulations. It stated that we did not have a permit to install the fence and that the back portion of the fence was not to code. We reached out to Blake to forward the information to him. He stated that his company has been doing fences in Hilliard for 6+ years and has never had to get a permit for a fence replacement. After reaching out to the city of Hilliard, they advised that any fence in the city limits needs to get a permit and since the back portion of the fence was not to code we had to also apply for a variance. While applying for the permit and variance, we needed the company's contractor registration number which they did not have. We went ahead and applied for the variance ourselves, which totaled to $300. Blake had told us through text that he would pay us back after receiving a receipt for the variance. We emailed the receipt to him on July 19th, 2021, with no response back from him. Through the variance filing process, we had to go in front of the board of zoning appeals in person to state the case for our fence. The variance was approved, but we had to pay double the initial permit fee which totaled to another $150. On Sept. 6, 2021 we reached out again about the permit filing and money, which Blake texted back with a picture of the permit being filed for $75 on Sept. 6, 2021. He stated he never received the email for the receipt of $309.96, so we sent it again on Sept. 6, 2021. On Nov. 5, 2021 we had to pay the remaining $75 permit fee because Blake did not file correctly. We would like a refund of $384.96.
